Council urges people to ‘Make It Local’ this Christmas
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has launched a new promotional campaign ahead of this year’s festive season. The campaign is designed to encourage people within the district to shop locally and support local businesses in the lead up to Christmas.
It promotes the Council’s ‘Make It Local’ message, which highlights the unique business offering that the district boasts, and celebrates the entrepreneurial resilience of Newry, Mourne and Down.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said, “As a Council, it is extremely important that we support the retail and services within our community, that serve our citizens, and who have worked hard to establish a safe shopping and hospitality experience in light of ongoing regulations.
Cllr Cathy Mason continued, “Our local businesses in Newry, Mourne and Down are outstanding, diverse and resilient. Now is the time to step up, support them and ‘Make it Local’. I would strongly encourage people, both from within the district and further afield if possible, to purchase from local businesses, particularly in preparation for the festive period.”
“It goes without saying that everyone should remain vigilant and mindful of the guidelines and measures that have been put in place due to COVID-19, I urge people to adhere to these at all times.”
Local businessman, Mark Kelly from Kellys Group in Warrenpoint, which includes the popular Kellys Christmas Shop, said, “We welcome the support provided by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council through its ‘Make It Local’ campaign, particularly in the lead up to Christmas.”
“These types of initiatives help bolster the local economy in so many ways, for example, in terms of direct employment in local retailers, and their positive impact on the supply chain. I would strongly encourage people to support all local businesses in the coming weeks where possible.
“We look forward to welcoming customers to our Christmas shop in Warrenpoint this year to see the beautiful trees, lights and decorations we have in stock.”
