Council Thanks Community Group Volunteers
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, hosted an afternoon tea event in the Burrendale Hotel, County Club and Spa on Sunday 5 June 2022 for community group volunteers from across the district. The event, which was compèred by local television presenter Julian Simmons, was to acknowledge and thank volunteers for the hard work and commitment which they provide in managing community facilities throughout the area as well as awarding Community Associations that went over and above to support their communities during the Covid pandemic.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council former Chairperson attended the event and speaking about the occasion, Councillor Michael Rice said, “I wish to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our community volunteers throughout the district. You give your time and energy freely to help make our community a better place. Your regular commitment makes a phenomenal difference in helping to deliver a positive impact to so many people.”
The afternoon tea event was organised through the Active Healthy Communities Department via the Community Services Section, who are responsible for building community capacity to empower local people to effect change within the community.
During the event numerous volunteers and facilities were presented with awards by compère Julian Simmons in recognition for the services which they provide to the district.
