Council Hosts ‘Spirit of Christmas’ Reception to Recognise Work of Local Voluntary and Charitable Groups
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie hosted a reception in the Great Hall, Downshire Estate, Downpatrick on Tuesday 15 December 2015 in honour of local voluntary and charitable groups.
In welcoming her guests, Councillor Bailie expressed her thanks for the work carried out by the voluntary and charitable sector throughout the entire district. The Chairperson commended her guests on their hard work and commitment, given selflessly throughout the community.
Speaking at the event Cllr Bailie said, ”Since my appointment as Chairperson in April this year, I have taken the opportunity to travel throughout our wonderful district to meet as many communities as possible. During this time I have been truly humbled and in awe of the outstanding contribution of our voluntary and charitable sector. Day after day you work tirelessly within your respective organisations, on behalf of some of the most vulnerable and marginalised within our society. Others here today work to ensure our culture, history and heritage is treasured and preserved for generations to come. Please be assured that I, and the Council, recognise that your dedication, commitment, foresight and ability, make a very real difference within our district and I thank you most sincerely for your efforts throughout the year.”
Cllr Bailie said the Council’s mission was to lead and serve a district that is prosperous and healthy, as well as sustainable from an economic, environmental and social perspective. She stressed that the collaboration of the voluntary and charitable sector, working alongside the Council, was vital to the achievement of this aim for the district.
Councillor Bailie treated her guests to some festive refreshments and took the opportunity to speak with them informally to hear more about their work and to personally thank them for their outstanding contribution.
