Council Employee Ann McComb Celebrates 50 Years of Service
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council employee, Ann McComb has been recognised for her outstanding long service to local communities, in a civic reception hosted by Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte.
The reception was held in the Canal Court Hotel and Spa, attended by her past and present colleagues along with close family and friends.
Ann has been the fabric of Council life for 50 years. She joined South Down Rural District Council in January 1973, which was based at Maghereagh Council Offices in Kilkeel and then shortly after became part of Newry and Mourne District Council.
Throughout her career she worked in many different Council departments in Newry. In April 1988, Ann took the position as Receptionist/Administrator at the newly built Kilkeel Recreation Centre, which has evolved and grown over the years to what we now know as Kilkeel Leisure Centre and is where Ann is still based.
Speaking at the reception, Council Chairperson, Councillor Valier Harte said, “I am delighted to host this reception for Anne tonight to celebrate a remarkable individual who has dedicated 50 years of service to the Council. This is an incredible accomplishment and we are here to celebrate your great work and dedication to your roles within the Council over the last 50 years.
“Your commitment and positive attitude has made a difference in the workplace and we are very lucky to have you as part of the Active and Healthy Communities team.”
Chief Executive, Marie Ward said, “What an honour it is for me to be at this reception for one of our Council employees who has 50 years’ service with Local Government.
“Tonight, is a way of saying thank you to you Ann, and to recognise your loyalty, commitment, and dedication to public service. It is a privilege to have you in our organisation, you are a very motivated staff member and without the skills and commitment of you and all our staff, the Council would not be able to achieve its corporate objectives, nor would we be able to maintain the smooth running of our Council.”
Concluding Mrs Ward wished Ann every success in her future endeavours.
