Council Completes Phase 2 of Breastfeeding Welcome Here Scheme
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has successfully completed phase 2 of their Breastfeeding Welcome Here Scheme plan. All Council owned community centres have now been trained and joined the Public Health Agency’s popular scheme.
By signing up to the initiative, the Council is making a positive commitment to promoting and providing a welcome space for mothers to breastfeed their babies when they are out and about. Over 700 local businesses and Council facilities are currently members of the scheme.
Chairperson Charlie Casey said, “I am delighted these community centres are now part of the Breastfeeding Welcome Here Scheme and what a great week to announce this news to the public as it is breastfeeding awareness week.
“I have recently called out to businesses and organisations to come on board and join this fantastic scheme and I hope that some have considered this.”
