Council Chairperson Launches New IFA Soccer Summer Camp at Drumaness Mills FC

Children aged 4 to 14 years can now sign up to a new Summer Soccer Camp at Drumaness Mills FC which has just been launched by the Irish Football Association (IFA) and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. 

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason said, “I am delighted to launch this new Summer Soccer Camp, this is great news as schools finish up and it offers our children and young people a chance to get involved in outdoor sports and physical activity which is vital for their personal health and mental wellbeing.  The new soccer summer camp will provide local young people with the opportunity to stay fit and healthy and to develop new friendships, new skills and benefit from social interactions both on and off the pitch.”

Darren McQuoid, Head of Youth Football at Drumaness Mills FC is delighted with his club’s current summer camp offering for young people. Darren said, “We are currently ahead of schedule with our strategic plans for developing new skills and talent in the club. We are now fielding teams at all age groups locally and our partnership with the IFA and the Council is a vital one as we look to develop the future of our club.”

The IFA’s representative in the district is Seamus Heath who works closely with Drumaness Mills FC and is in full of praise of the clubs ongoing community work. Seamus said, “The Mills is more than a football club, their work in the village and in the surrounding area is certainly bearing fruit and our partnership is a two-way process. I know the programmes that we run in conjunction with Mills FC plus the programmes they also deliver independently are all professionally delivered by the coaches and volunteers with the children’s development being paramount.”

The dates for the four-week summer football camps are as follows:

5-9 July and 19-23 July (Monday-Friday 10am-1pm)
2-6 August and 23-27 August (Monday-Friday 10am-1pm)
