Council Chairperson Launches Be Active Summer Programme
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is excited to announce the launch of this years Be Active Summer Programme for 2024.
The fun filled programme is now open for bookings and is designed to provide children and young people with a range of activities and sports to keep them entertained throughout the summer months.
The Be Active Summer Programme offers a wide array of activities, from outdoor and indoor swimming activities to court based sports such as basketball, squash, table tennis along with many other Council-funded sports programs available throughout the district.
Attending the launch, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne said, “We are thrilled to announce our exciting summer program, designed to engage children throughout Newry, Mourne, and Down. We hope to foster a love for physical activity and sport from an early age, promoting active and healthy lifestyles for all children.
The programme is designed to cater to different interests and abilities so every child will find something they enjoy and I’m encouraging everyone to get involved.”
With a range of inclusive and engaging options, Council aims to ensure that every child can enjoy an active summer experience.
Activities are available across Leisure Centres throughout July and August, including opportunities to sign up for Multi-Sports sessions for primary school-aged children. There’s also Teen Activity Week, the ‘Wheelie Active’ programme, autism-friendly swim sessions plus so much more activities to help keep children and young people fit, active and engaged over the summer!
