Council Chair Urges Women To Take Up New Breast Screening Opportunity
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Naomi Ballie visited the new breast screening service being offered by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust to women in the Crossmaglen.
From now until early January the service will operate from the health centre in McCormick Place.
Women aged 50-70 who have a GP in Crossmaglen, Mullaghbawn or Newtownhamilton and who have not received screening in the past three years will be invited to attend the clinic. Women over 70 will not automatically be called for screening but may make an appointment by calling 028 3839 7020.
Councillor Ballie welcomed this new development saying, “I am delighted that such an important service is being brought to Crossmaglen. This will allow women in a rural area to receive this vital, lifesaving service in their own community. I would urge any woman who is invited to be screened to attend. The earlier cancers are detected the greater the chance of a full recovery.”
