Consultation for Phase III of Newry’s Hill Street Public Realm Scheme
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has announced the start of a Public Consultation Process in respect of the proposed next phase of Newry Public Realm works.
While the official timescale for Scheme Delivery cannot be confirmed until early 2019, the proposed extent of works will be concentrated on ‘Lower Hill Street/John Mitchell Place’ and ‘Its Associated Side Streets’.
The proposed works will comprise of the installation of new paving and kerbing on the footways. New decorative street lighting, street furniture, tree planting and the under-grounding of overhead services are also proposed as part of the scheme.
Before finalising the design for submission to planning, the project promoters intend to put the draft scheme proposals on display in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre from Monday 1 October until Friday 12 October 2018. During this period, the proposals can also be viewed and commented on through the Council’s social media sites.
The consultants will also be available on Wednesday 10 October 2018 at 6pm in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre to give a presentation on the scheme and to discuss the proposals in more detail.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “We would strongly encourage both the general public and traders, in particular, to come along, view the proposals and feed their comments into the process.”
