Communities Leading Change Funding Opportunity Opens
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and its Community Planning Partners are running their successful Communities Leading Change project for the third year. The Council is inviting community groups in the district to apply for funding for projects that promote positive mental health by improving social connections through a participatory budgeting process. The participatory budgeting process involves members of the public being invited to vote for projects they think will benefit their area most.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Cathy Mason, said, “It is now more important than ever to hear the voice of our community, particularly those who are most vulnerable. I am delighted to be a part of the Communities Leading Change project this year. It will give the residents of the district a chance to decide how money is spent in their area. I am also pleased that the theme this year focuses on mental health, as many people have been negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I am excited to see what innovative projects come forward, and how these will benefit the people of Newry, Mourne and Down.”
Groups, individuals, and Community and Voluntary organisations from the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area are invited to submit an Expression of Interest form with innovative project ideas for funding of up to £1500. We also ask that they submit a photo of their group so that we can share online, allowing residents to vote for their favourites. The application process is now open and closes on Friday 22 October 2021.
