Civic and Regional Hub

Newry merits a civic building that reflects its City status. A new administrative centre for the district also sends the right message to investors.   

This Newry City Centre Regeneration Project is all about regenerating Newry’s historic core and attracting footfall into the City. This urban regeneration focus secured funding from the Belfast Region City Deal.

In March 2023 the Southern Health and Social Care Trust confirmed its purchase of the Monaghan Row Buildings from the Council. Situated next door to Daisy Hill Hospital, the £900,000 acquisition will allow the Trust to expand and develop services at the hospital.

The new Civic and Regional Hub will bring together Council staff who are currently accommodated in several buildings across the city and the sale of Monaghan Row helps facilitate these plans.

A Planning Application is currently being considered for the Abbey Way site with construction expected to begin in the Summer of 2025.
