Chairperson welcomes Bessbrook/Cloughreagh Tae Kwon Do Club
A reception to celebrate the achievements of Bessbrook/Cloughreagh Tae Kwon Do club has been hosted by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey.
The event at Newry Arts Centre marked the group’s achievements in the international Tae Kwon Do federation European Championship and European Kup Competition held in Cork on Sunday 28 July.
Seventeen students from the Bessbrook/Cloughreagh Tae Kwon Do club competed in the competitions and amassed 19 medals between them.
The Bessbrook/Cloughreagh club is an inclusive, community-based group, which believes that nobody is too old or too young to join their classes. They cater for all ages and levels of fitness, with club members ranging in age from five years old to 52 years old.
Speaking at the recent reception event, Councillor Casey congratulated members on their hard work and achievements.
“Success doesn’t come easily,” he said. “It takes a lot of hard work and determination to win your way to a world championship title and you have all proved that you can be world champions. All of you have been great ambassadors for Newry, Mourne and Down, and you have helped raise our profile throughout the island of Ireland.
“You are a credit to your families, your club and to the entire community and I have no doubt that Bessbrook/Cloughreagh Tae Kwon Do Club will continue from strength to strength.
“This reception is all about you—a celebration of your wins, a recognition of your sporting talents, and a thank you to your manager, your parents and all who have mentored you. I wish you all continued sporting successes.”
