Chairperson of Council Celebrates International Women’s Day with Virtual Staff Event
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Laura Devlin hosted an online event for Council employees to celebrate International Women’s Day on Monday 8 March 2021.
BBC Radio Ulster Presenter Lynette Fay chaired the exciting seminar and was joined by a panel line up of Councillor Devlin, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chief Executive, Marie Ward and local entrepreneur Grainne McCoy where they discussed their views on International Women’s day and outlined their personal career paths.
Eighty Council employees took part in the hour-long event at which the panel discussed a variety of issues including the impact of working through a pandemic, bridging the working and family divide, the importance of supporting initiatives addressing mental health and steps to take to improve our health and wellbeing. The event concluded with makeup and skin care advice from Grainne McCoy.
Speaking about the event, Cllr Devlin said, “International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe. I organised this virtual event so staff can take an hour out of their busy schedules to mark International Women’s Day by relaxing, enjoying good company and having a few laughs together. On International Women’s day, we champion the women in our lives, celebrate each other’s achievements, provide support and advice when required and continue to raise awareness of equality”.
