Chairperson Hosts School Council Members from Bessbrook Primary School
On Monday 24 February, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne, was delighted to welcome School Council Members from Bessbrook Primary School to the Council’s boardroom in Monaghan Row, Newry.
During their visit the children found out about the functions of the Council and what the role of Chairperson entailed. The pupils then had the chance to ask questions and learn about all the services the Council provides.
Chairperson Councillor Pete Byrne said, “I was delighted to host the visit for the School Council members. A visit such as this helps in the understanding that the Council belongs to everyone within our entire district and provides services for all. It is also important to give young people a direct understanding of the expectations of the Chairperson during their term in office.”
Mrs Adamson, class teacher expressed her gratitude to Councillor Byrne for inviting the children and providing them with such a valuable and insightful presentation.
The visit concluded with the Chairperson hosting lunch.
