Chairperson Hosts Reception to Celebrate 180 Years of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne hosted a reception on Tuesday 15 October, at the Council Offices in Monaghan Row to celebrate St Vincent de Paul Day and to mark the 180th anniversary of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The event brought together volunteers and members from across the district to acknowledge their invaluable contribution in supporting the most vulnerable in our local communities.
In the past year, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has provided nearly £5million in assistance to those in need. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, many local families are struggling to make ends meet and the charity’s efforts have been crucial in helping to provide essentials such as food, fuel, and household items. In the last six months alone, there has been a significant increase in requests for support across the district, highlighting the vital role the charity plays.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne said, “It is an honour for me to host this reception tonight and to celebrate the outstanding work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul volunteers throughout our district. The dedication and selfless service you have shown over the years is truly inspiring. I am immensely proud of the invaluable work you do for this remarkable charity. Your compassion and commitment to helping those in need is a vital lifeline for so many.”
