Chairperson Hosts Reception for Scór na nÓg All-Ireland Champions
On Thursday 18 February, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane hosted a reception to honour the achievements of the district’s Scór na nÓg All Ireland finalists.
The finalists of the Scór na nÓg were St Patrick’s Cullyhanna who were winners of Léiriú in the short play category, Gavin Gribben from Mayobridge GAC who was the winner of Amhránaíocht Aonair for solo singing and the Silverbridge Harps céilí dancers who won the Rince Foirne for set dancing.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane said, “Saturday 30 January was a great day for our district as, not one, but three of our local Clubs became All-Ireland Scór na nÓg Champions. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is the third largest of the 11 new Councils, with a population of around 171,500 and our rural communities and Clubs, such as those here tonight, are essential to the Council’s vision of a district where communities are cohesive and actively engaged, and which offer a good quality of life for young and old. It is when we work together collaboratively and in partnership that we secure better outcomes for all.”
Chairperson Ruane personally congratulated each of the performers and said he had no doubt their futures were bright and their talents would take them far, adding “remember to promote our district whenever you can”.
Everyone at the reception was then treated to a performance by all the winning acts, which ended a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable evening.
