Chairperson Hosts Reception for Junior Eurovision Song Contest Winner and Finalists
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage hosted a reception on Friday 11 November 2022 for Sophie Lennon, Clare Keeley and Niamh Noade in recognition of their musical achievements.
Singers Sophie Lennon from Mayobridge, Newry; Clare Keeley from Gilford and Harpist and singer Niamh Noade from Lislea, all pupils of the Flynn Performing Arts in Newry recently competed in the finals of the Junior Eurovision Éire 2022.
Sophie went on to claim the top award, being named overall winner in the Junior Eurovision Éire 2022 competition with her flawless performances of Tom Walker’s ‘Leave the Light On’ and Linda Martin’s Eurovision hit ‘Why Me’. This means that Sophie will now be the ‘Voice of Ireland’ in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 taking place in Yerevan, Armenia on Sunday 11 December.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Michael Savage said, “This is a remarkable achievement and each of the girls should be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished. Their performances were outstanding, demonstrating the hard work, commitment and dedication that they have given to their music. I have no doubt that each one of them have a very bright future ahead within the music industry.”
Cllr Savage continued, “ I would like to wish Sophie every success in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Armenia in December, and I have no doubt that people right across the district will be watching her performance with pride as she showcases her unique singing talents on this global stage.”
During the reception Councillor Savage presented each of the girls with an engraved crystal trophy to mark their outstanding achievements.
