Chairperson Honours Lisnamulligan Pipe Band
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew hosted a reception in the Council Boardroom, Newry, on Thursday 3 May to honour the achievements of Lisnamulligan Pipe Band and present them with an engraved crystal bowl.
After a break of seven years from competitions, the band swept the boards in 2017 by winning the British Championships 2017, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Championships 2017, 2017 Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Champion of Champions band for 4B grade, and third place in the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.
Councillor Roisin Mulgrew said, “The Council and indeed the whole community are very proud of your accomplishments during 2017, especially as the band had not been participating in competitions for seven years.
“The commitment that you have shown over the past year has been amply rewarded. I know that this level of achievement is only possible where everyone is determined to do whatever is necessary to succeed, and this includes the families of band members.
“Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is the third largest Council and one of our main aims is to encourage our local communities to be involved, empowered and energised in all they do. Your achievements make our community better and stronger and we salute you for your efforts.”
Councillor Mulgrew concluded, “It is great to see local bands achieving success and I am eagerly looking forward to our Council hosting the Ulster Pipe Band Championships in Newcastle, Co. Down in July 2018. No doubt you will win many more accolades in the years to come.”
