Chairman Pledges Support for Ballynahinch Men’s Shed
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin, has pledged his support for the establishment of a Men’s Shed in Ballynahinch.
The Men’s Shed will be located in a space donated by Ballynahinch Credit Union. Councillor Murnin expressed his appreciation of the work carried out to date on this project and the vital contribution the local group is making to the community. He welcomed the particular emphasis on combating isolation and loneliness.
Councillor Murnin said: “One of the Council’s strategic objectives is supporting improved health and wellbeing outcomes and the Men’s Shed in Ballynahinch will be invaluable in helping to achieve this objective. It will provide a welcoming and inclusive meeting place where men can primarily focus on socialising, learning new skills and working on various meaningful projects at their own pace in a safe and friendly environment.
“Men’s Sheds nurture a method of community education, health promotion for men and a support network within local communities. This gives men a unique opportunity to improve and maintain their health and well-being by participating and I commend the work of the local group which is establishing the facility in Ballynahinch.
“I am particularly grateful to Ballynahinch Credit Union Limited and their directors for providing the space for the Men’s Shed and recognizing the significant benefits to local people of this great community initiative.”
