Chairman Meets Newly Appointed High Sheriff for Down
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin, recently met with the newly appointed High Sheriff of Down, Harry Shields. Councillor Murnin offered his congratulations to Mr Shields and used the opportunity to discuss his new appointment to help the district.
Mr Shields, from Spa, Ballynahinch and Managing Director of Waringstown-based Polypipe, was appointed to the traditional role by Secretary of State, Karen Bradley and will be carrying out the High Sheriff’s ceremonial duties until the end of 2019. These duties will include assisting at formal engagements where the Lord Lieutenant of Down, David Lindsay, is required to represent the Queen.
Chairman, Councillor Murnin said, “Harry has offered his assistance to the Council in any way possible over the forthcoming year, and I look forward to working with him as I complete my term as Chairman.
“I am confident that Harry will represent County Down admirably and will faithfully discharge his duties in this important honorary role. Harry intends to continue to raise much needed funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre, Belfast during his time as High Sheriff, and I wish him well in all his endeavours in the coming year.”
