Chairman hosts Civic Awards Reception
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin hosted the Council’s prestigious annual Civic Awards ceremony for Newry and Mourne in Newry Town Hall on Tuesday 16 April 2019. The event celebrated the achievements of 26 inspirational people who work tirelessly in the district to make it a great place to live, work and visit.
First Citizen Councillor Murnin expressed his pride and delight at the winners’ achievements, saying, “I am delighted to host you this evening to celebrate each of your outstanding achievements, with such a diverse range of accomplishments.
“Many people achieve great things or dedicate their time to helping others. Much of this work goes unnoticed, but through our annual Civic Awards we can celebrate your achievements. The Council and our wider community are very proud of each and every one of you. All of you have shown talent, dedication and commitment and have become exemplary pillars of our community. I am humbled to honour you this evening.
Councillor Murnin concluded, “Tonight is dedicated to all of you and the work you have undertaken to showcase both your talents, and our district. To those who gave their time in a voluntary or community capacity, those who strive to improve our district, those who have embraced the arts to show off our culture, and to those whose sporting achievements has resulted in this honour, I thank you.”
