Chairman Backs World Cleanup Day
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairman, Councillor Mark Murnin, is urging everyone to support World Cleanup Day which takes place on Saturday 15 September.
Cllr Murnin said, “There are many ways to do your bit. For example if you are going for a walk along our beautiful coast why not pick up some litter as you go along. At Warrenpoint and Rostrevor as part of the #2minutebeachclean initiative, litterpickers are provided for your convenience. Every action, however small, helps and everyone can make a difference.”
Cllr Murnin added, “For groups carrying out voluntary clean ups in their local area the Council can help your efforts by arranging a loan of litterpickers, vests and bags and provide a collection of bagged waste once your cleanup has finished. A proposed cleanup can happen at any time of the year and litterpickers and assistance are always available. No effort is too small. Picking up one piece of litter in your garden, street or estate helps as it is one less item littering our district.”
Anyone wishing to borrow litterpickers or any other equipment for World Cleanup Day, please call 0300 013 2233.
