Ceramic Workshops Come to Sean Hollywood Centre
Sean Hollywood Arts Centre is pleased to welcome Newry born ceramicist Amy Mackle who will lead two Saturday morning workshops for budding potters and craftspeople. The workshops will take place on 1 June and 15 June, with the second one building on the work that participants carry out initially.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Casey said, “These ceramic workshops, led by one of our local artists, are a wonderful way for local people to create their own work of art. Ceramicist Amy Mackle is well known in this area, partially due to the workshops she held during last year’s City of Merchants Festival.
“Not only will participants in these Saturday workshops learn new techniques and skills, but they will walk away with a unique creation to be enjoyed for many years to come. I’m sure that everyone who takes part will find them interesting and worthwhile.”
The first workshop on Saturday 1 June will see participants concentrating on sketching and making their pieces in wet clay, either as 2D relief pieces or experimenting with 3D building and coiling techniques.
The second workshop on Saturday 15 June will see the now fired pieces ready for decoration, with participants using underglazes and other glazes, learning and using different techniques and processes.
