Careers Inspiration Event for Year 9 Pupils
Year 9 pupils from Newry, Mourne and Down attended an interactive careers inspiration event called 4C UR Future LIVE.
The innovative event, held in Newry Leisure Centre on Thursday 9 June, was organised by 4C UR Future - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company – in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
4C UR Future LIVE was a fun, fast-paced and action-packed day full of interactive skills, games and work-based challenges, giving Year 9 students an insight into the future world of work, as well as their own strengths and talents.
In total, 744 students from Down High School, Our Lady’s Grammar School, Shimna Integrated College, St Joseph’s High School and St Paul’s High School attended the event, which also seen collaborative working from a wide range of employers and key sectors with the aim of empowering young the people to make more informed education and career choices.
In addition, 4C UR Future will be launching a Careers Portal in September to further support students to make informed decisions such as their GCSE subject choices, education pathway, and future career interests.
Commenting on the event, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Michael Savage said, “I am delighted to see an interactive skills-based learning event which engaged and inspired so many young students.
“Through 4C UR Future LIVE events and the first generation careers portal, which will soon be launched, we aim to inform young people of the wide range of opportunities available to them, help them navigate the complex careers landscape, and inspire them to achieve their ambitions and become the best version of themselves.”
Chairperson, Cllr Savage continued, “In this modern world, careers are changing and new job and sectors are emerging. It is so important that our students have access to information and experiences that will help to shape their future career path. Events like these in conjunction with the careers portal are great resources which will assist the young students within our district to make a more informed decision about their future.”
