Bulky Waste Collection Service

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Waste Department provides a bulky waste collection service to assist local householders with the removal of bulky waste items that cannot be deposited in their standard black bin. This service must be booked in advance through direct contact with the Council.

We are able to collect:

•large electrical appliances – fridges/freezers/washing machines/white goods
•wooden items – wardrobes/chest of drawers/tables/chairs
•bicycles
•sofas and arm chairs
•mattresses and beds
•soft furnishings and carpets.

Items that will not be collected by the Bulky Waste Service include:

•fixtures and fittings (kitchen and bathroom)
•asbestos
•building materials and plaster board
•car batteries
•dead animals
•garden sheds
•garden waste and trees
•glass
•hard core
•oil and grease
•oil tanks
•paint tins
•pianos
•small electrical appliances (kettles, toasters, etc).

Note: Small electrical items should be brought to your local Household Recycling Centre for proper disposal under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive.
This service is for domestic waste only and we are unable to take away any trade or commercial waste.

Service Requirements 
•items must be out 72 hours prior to collection.
•items will be sprayed with disinfectant  by the Council, prior to removal.
•householders must notify the Council prior to scheduled collection date, should any member of their household be self-isolating.    

Collection Days
• former Newry and Mourne District Council area- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 
• former Down District Council area - Wednesday and Thursday
 This service is for domestic waste only and we are unable to take away any trade or commercial waste.

Fees
A charge of £12.75 will be payable, in advance, per bulky waste collection.
A maximum of five items will be allowed per collection.

Service Request
If you would like to request a bulky collection, please contact the Waste Department Customer Service Section on 0330 137 4047, where payment will be taken and a date for collection provided.
While it will not be possible to specify the exact time of collection, all items will be collected between 8am and 5pm on the agreed date.

Payment
Payments can be accepted by phoning the Waste Department Customer Service Section on 0330 137 4047 and paying by Credit/Debit card. 

Refunds
If for some reason your circumstances change and you no longer require to avail of this service, a refund will be given, provided the request for service cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the planned collection date, otherwise the payment is non-refundable.
