Brown Bins Still Available for Residents
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council residents can still claim a free bin, but only until Sunday 30 September 2018.
Recycling more waste is a priority that the Council takes very seriously. In the year 2017-2018 Newry Mourne and Down District Council recycled nearly 13,000t of mixed food and garden waste, collected through the brown bin scheme. This is an increase of over 4800t and has resulted in a 6% increase in the recycling rate when compared to the year 2016 to 2017.
The Council is pleased that residents have taken to recycling more of the compostable waste and that the message of no food waste in black bins has been taken on board. While most local residents are using their brown bin and food caddies, there are still a small number that do not have that facility and Council is continuing to publicise the scheme.
The offer of a free brown bin and caddy for those who have never received these now closes on 30 September 2018. After this date normal charges for new bins will apply.
