Banish the January Blues at Sean Hollywood Arts Centre and Newry Town Hall
The new winter/spring brochure for Sean Hollywood Arts Centre has just arrived and it’s brimming with music, theatre and workshops to wash away the January blues.
First class comedy and drama kicks off on 18 January with Aladdin, presented by Newry Pantomime Players in Newry Town Hall and runs until 26 January.
On Wednesday 23 January, KABOSH Theatre Company will bring their new play, ‘The Box’ to Sean Hollywood Arts Centre. Written by Carlo G?bler, the play reveals the incredible story of County Down nurse, Olive Swanzy who whilst serving in WWI kept sketch books documenting her experiences of the war and the people she met. Her memoirs contain poems, jokes, comments, cartoons and sketches by wounded soldiers, which lay hidden for years in a box in Rostrevor.
For classical music lovers, the fabulous Newry Chamber Music will present ‘If You Can Find Me’ on Thursday 17 January in Sean Hollywood Arts Centre at 8pm. The evening will celebrate the music of Stephen Sondheim, and feature rising stars from the Northern Ireland Opera Studio Artists Programme.
A selection of workshops is on offer including an exciting opportunity for GCSE and A-Level students to work with Bruiser Theatre Company. They will be in attendance on Monday 21 January in Sean Hollywood Arts Centre in the aptly named ‘A Day With Bruiser’. It will equip students with the skills they need to create exciting, devised theatre pieces and attendee’s will develop an understanding and insight into the industry as a whole. The day will end with a short performance by Bruiser Theatre Company.
On Monday 28 January at 7.30pm, Newry Floral Art Society will host a workshop, ‘An Evening of Floral Art’, teaching techniques and tricks-of-the-trade to make beautiful flora creations.
Visual arts include the intriguing exhibition, ‘Twenty 7’, by Kevin Dwan, running from 11 - 31 January at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre. The exhibition features poetry and art steeped in metaphor and hidden secrets conjuring a magical world where things, once unknown and esoteric, become self- evident.
