Arts and Culture Autumn Programme Launched
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has officially launched the Down Arts Centre’s latest Season Programme.
The Arts and Culture Autumn Programme features a jammed packed schedule of live performances, exhibitions, classes and workshops that will be taking place in Down Arts Centre, Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, Down County Museum and Newry and Mourne Museum throughout the months of September, October and December.
Down Arts Centre Live music performances will begin in style on Saturday 3 September with the revival of the ‘All Ages Rock Night’. Music highlights include home-grown singer/songwriter Brigid O’Neill, Wookalily, Queen Tribute act Flash Harry, the Illegals with Niamh Kavanagh and the Legend of Luke Kelly.
The programme showcases a fantastic range of theatre performances including ‘The Lantern Man’ by Jane Coyle, ‘In The Window’ starring Nuala McKeever, ‘Two Sore Legs’ with Maria Connolly, ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’ by Hotbuckle Theatre Company, comedian Tim McGarry and the Arts Centre Annual Christmas show, ‘Old Mother Hubbard’s Crazy Christmas’.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “The new programme truly brings the best of Arts and Culture to the district with a number of fantastic performances that will display a wonderful range of talent. I would encourage residents of the district and those visiting to make sure to witness some of the fantastic performances and take part in the many skilful classes and workshops. There is sure to be some great nights had in the Down Arts Centre this Autumn.
There will be a number of classes available for adults to learn valuable skills such as cake decorating, silver jewellery making, pottery, painting, creative writing, dressmaking, guitar lessons and crochet. Kids can also get in on the act with specialised classes for children including pottery, rock school, guitar lessons and digital art workshops.
